The Artist
Swiss-Croatian artist from Zurich Renata Cebular has established her legacy across numerous artistic domains under “Art by Cebular” over the past sixteen years. Her rich portfolio encapsulates Fine Art, Fashion, Textile Design, Interior Design, and dynamic Cultural Projects in public spaces. This repertoire stretches from intuitive drawings on diverse mediums like paper and silk to visionary business ventures.
BIOGRAPHY
From her youth, Renata's artistic inclination was palpable. Using elementary tools, she transformed her surroundings with vibrant colors and unique geometric motifs. Her distinctive style? Graceful lines interlacing to form distinctive patterns, that resonate with the brilliance of simplicity.
The musical journey began at the age of nine with the choir of Radio-Television Zagreb, followed by a comprehensive six-year education in music theory, singing and piano. These experiences were fundamental to Renata's creative development and influenced not only her early years, but also her current artistic development, especially in the field of drawing, were music guides compositional dynamics and color choices.
A life-altering move at 29 took Renata from the urban zest of Zagreb to the placid realms of Scuol Unterengadin in Switzerland. This transition, tinged with nostalgia, saw her harness art to encapsulate the poignant memories of her homeland and the visage of her daughter, Oriana.
An enriching interaction with a graphics teacher during her stint as a physiotherapist catalyzed her journey to the New Art School of Zürich.
While motherhood to René and Lana demanded a brief artistic sabbatical, Renata’s fervor for expression remained undiminished. A journey of introspection and self-discovery refueled her artistic drive. In 2011, she graduated from the Department of Cultural Analysis (Education, Arts, Society) at the Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK) with a CAS diploma (Certificate of Advanced Studies).
In the past, art was a personal expression of experience. With further academic training, she launched her label Art by Cebular. With the opening to society, accompanied by the philosophy “Out of Simplicity”, Renata’s works embody artistic simplicity with a complex design.
The pivotal move from Croatia to Switzerland became a wellspring of artistic inspiration for Renata, especially her poignant portraits channeling the homesickness and her connection to her daughter, Oriana. A chance meeting with an experienced drawing teacher during her physiotherapy career catalyzed her artistic journey, inspiring her enrollment to further education in the artistic field.
A sequence of transformative events ushered her into an intensely personal phase marked by deep introspection. Through this reflective prism, she channeled her emotions into evocative artworks, notably "Universe," "The New Beginning," and "Release." Renata envisions a paradigm shift in decor, guiding society to explore new dimensions of spatial aesthetics and perception.
From her formative years, Renata was captivated by the world's beauty, meticulously sketching everything from fashion to nature, aiming to amplify their inherent allure. Utilizing simple tools, Renata championed the transformative power of simplicity, creating complex designs with ease. Fluidity in her freehand strokes became emblematic of her style, characterized by interwoven patterns.
Experimenting with scale, Renata pioneered evocative 3D visuals, and her foray into colors saw neon motifs vividly juxtaposed against black and white paper and ebony canvases. Driven to underscore the profound in the mundane, Renata adeptly harnessed colored ball point gel pens and inks, capturing her emotions with precision. Her creations are spontaneous and organic, evolving from the emotions of the moment, weaving together patterns and hues to craft a vivid tapestry of stories.

My left hand creates broad, harmonious strokes, while my right hand focuses on intricate details, blending sweeping movements with precision. Personal Statement
At the intersection of art and medicine, my journey began within the halls of the Medical Faculty at the University of Zagreb in Croatia, as well as at the University Hospital Zurich in Switzerland. In my foundational training, I delved into the intricacies of human anatomy, physiology, and the redemptive realm of rehabilitation. My passion for the visual arts has invigorated my clinical practice, guiding me beyond the physical to the realm of the patient’s psychology.
At the Zurich University of the Arts, I encountered another facet of communication through art. Through in-depth studies in art education and cultural analysis, the visual arts became a potent theoretical instrument. Just as history is captured with brush and paint, I leverage my medical knowledge to assist patients in crafting their own narratives of recovery and revival.
As a life coach, I amalgamate clinical acumen and artistic insight to aid individuals in realizing their goals, recognizing each as a multifaceted masterpiece. To me, art and medicine resonate in harmony, whether I create a work on paper, sculpt an object, or engage with bespoke textiles; echoes of my medical journey reverberate within. Each artifact symbolizes resilience, evolution, and the delicate balance between structure and freedom.
In a world prone to compartmentalizing professions, I have interwoven my dual spheres. I passionately advocate for enhancing interdisciplinary collaboration and illuminating novel perspectives through visual art and art theory.
I believe that collective endeavor directs society’s creative energy towards forging a globally liberated and emotionally resonant community.
